Day 18 Monday June 3

A beautiful day and a beautiful ride. Blue sky, comfortable temperatures and views of the sea for much of the ride made it a very pleasant ride. Yes, there was some hard climbing but everyone was doing it with a smile on their face. Our ride started along the coast road where there was quite a bit of traffic but we soon left the road to start climbing. As we climbed we had great views of the ocean. Once we got inland we were in a river valley with the river a long ways below us. The river is a destination for rafting and kayaking so there were trailers with rafts going up the road as we descended. As we approached the bottom we could finally see the river. At that point we were near where the river enters the ocean between two cliffs. However, for us to get to the coast we had to climb again and this climb was steep. On the second river picture below you can see the road climbing out of the valley. After cresting the hill we started down and soon stopped for lunch. Everyone was in high spirits having enjoyed the ride so far. After lunch we continued down back to the coast road and into Split but not before another 600 feet of climbing. Everyone enjoyed the ride.

We have a day off in Split followed by four days of riding. Even though a couple of the days are long, if the weather holds we should enjoy Croatia.
