Day 26 Thursday June 13

Another great day of biking. The first 30 miles or so was a climb followed by mostly downhill. We are in Innsbruck and have a rest day here. We loose another rider here as well. Winn who is from Canada but has a home in Scottsdale is meeting friends here and they will be traveling in the area for a while. We also had another bad accident today. Geoff who is from Australia was going along a very narrow section of the bike path next to a fence with vertical steel posts, wobbled or got blown by a passing truck, but in any case reached out to catch himself and caught his arm on the very sharp edges of the steel posts. He got some severe cuts to his arm and was bleeding heavily and as a result went into shock and fainted. I was not there so I am reporting what happened second hand. An ambulance came and he was transported to the hospital where he is being treated.

I didn’t take a lot of pictures of our route since much of it was not very photogenic. We were on a bike path most of the day and it ran near the highway or near industrial areas for much of it. Not nearly as many bicyclists today since we were out of the Dolomites but, still, we probably passed close to a hundred. I did take some pictures of Brexin before we left. It is a very pleasant location. In my room I heard a continuous loud sound that I thought must be from some construction. It was quite loud but unusual for construction since it was constant without any variation. When I took a walk I discovered the sound was from the very fast moving river outside our hotel.

Innsbruck is a pretty city and I will post more pictures of it tomorrow.
